Villa Poss was built in 1812 on the ruins of an ancient fortress. With one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the lake in the region, it took on its present form with the work of architects Pietro Bottoni and Francesco Galli between 1860 and the following decade. As already mentioned, the gardens were also of considerable importance. Their current extension, almost six hectares, was added in 1889, when the owner was Adalberto Barbò di Soresina. The marvellous park consisted of greenhouses, grottoes, small valleys, bridges, gazebos, stables and numerous trees and shrubs. The historic complex of Villa Poss, located along the coastal road from Intra to Ghiffa in the province of Verbania, belongs to them. The architectural structure, with all its properties, fits into the Verbania area between the green of the mountains and the blue of the lake, dominating this boundary through a vast botanical park, belvedere terraces, fountains and Italian gardens. Villa Poss and its properties, including an immense park with more than 150 species of vegetation, today looks like an uncultivated forest, hiding unexpected wonders. For more than a century it has been recognised as one of the most enchanting places in the area, thanks to the characteristic medieval architecture of the Villa, with its belvedere tower, and the magnificence of the garden, which reached its peak in the 1960s under the last owner, the family of Alessandro Poss. The 13,000 m2 of residential space are distributed in the following buildings: the stately villa, another chalet (ideal as a guest house), stables, an independent house, a greenhouse, a romantic pavilion and several terraces.
